:: Pre-Easter "Two-Fer" ::
:: Dallas Thursday Night Irregulars ::
Players: Steve Miller, Bob Murdock, Clay Smith and Scott White
Points: 2K per player
Table Size: 12x6
Mission: Hold the Line
Game 1:
The Allies drew the attacker spot and proceeded to move toward two objectives.
Bob moved his MkIV Specials (ok...I'm a DR player) to a hull down position and
brought his Tiger into a long range "tank sniper" position on Scott's route of
advance. Scott countered with M10s and destroyed several lighter (?) German
AFVs. Meanwhile, Steve probed the heavily wooded right flank with Honey Stuarts
and a platoon of Grants in support. Clay was holding his objective with several
platoons of PzGrenadiers. Steve advanced on both flanks with 25lb'r artillery
providing some support.
Scott felt the wrath of Bob's Tiger which popped U.S. halftracks, AFVs and
supports with ease. Clay brought a kampfgruppe with AT support to help Bob
destroy the numerically superior U.S. forces. Steve moved his second platoon of
Grants and the command platoon of Shermans into direct fire onto the objective
village with little effect. Clay began to consolidate his forces in a smaller
defensible perimeter. Steve used Honeys to try to force the issue with the
PzGrenadiers but was destroyed by Panzerknackers and poor tactics on his part.
Bob continued to hammer the U.S. force and Scott threw in the towel. Steve did
not take the objective so the Germans got the win!
Game2:
We switched sides. Clay played a 2K British DR force in this game. He played a
unit of SAS (Blood Angels Assault Troops for you 40K players). Clay double
moved his entire force putting a big "Cheshire Cat Smile" on Bob's face. He shot
mediocre however and Clay achieved position. He proceeded to destroy Bob's
panzers with Lewes bombs and plain ole' fashioned "chutzpah". Scott followed
basically the same plan as Clay but just beat on the Grant, Shermans and
Honeys. To Scott's credit, no Tigers were used in his battle force.
Steve could not take the objective a second time while Clay took and held the first
objective with a resulting win for the Allies. The reason this battle report was
shorter was because the SAS with armored support is pretty powerful. I used a
more traditional mode of advance and was not successful. That tells me the SAS
motto holds true..."He who dares wins"!
A great day was had by all.
